Marc Jacobs celebrates individuality and diversity on the streets of New York

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs’ newest campaign has finally been released and the message is loud and clear: long live diversity! In order to be able to convey this message, Marc Jacobs employed the photographer Tyler Mitchell. Mitchell proves that he has a knack for something like this; to be able to send this creative message.

It is September and the fashion houses all over the world are presenting their winter campaigns – such as Marc Jacobs. He has fished himself the New Yorker filmmaker and photographer Tyler Mitchell, who really knows how to put Jacobs’ visions into effect. He was inspired by the 90s Hip-Hop scene for this campaign and impressively shows this scene’s influence up until today. If you’re imagining some typical Hip-Hop campaign, then think again. Together with the stylist Julia Baylis, Mitchell casted models on the streets of New York that never would have guessed that they were “cool enough”. In Dazed magazine, Mitchell said that it doesn’t matter whether the models are masculine, feminine or transsexual. The goal is to show that anyone and everyone can look fantastic in clothes designed by Marc Jacobs – no matter the gender or nationality. Mitchell knows how to mix Marc Jacobs’ high-end components with typical street wear elements – a phenomenon that The Flow House has previously touched upon and which in this case is also successful.

Photographed in Brooklyn, there was an additional video that was shot for this campaign. No other place would have been better to capture Marc Jacobs’ newest fashion’s emotions. The fact that Marc Jacobs was able to employ such a talented, especially street wear focused photographer such as Mitchell, shows a further positive development of the fashion scene. The result of this collaboration is proof enough that the world needs and should celebrate diversity. Karim
